Biography of the Most Venerable Thich Nhu Tinh
The Most Venerable Thich Nhu Tinh, whose worldly name is Nguyen Lang, Dharma name is Thanh Trang, Dharma character is Thanh Tho, Dharma alias is Nhu Tinh, born in the Year of the Tiger – 1926 in Phu Khanh Trung hamlet, Dien Thanh commune, Dien Khanh district, Khanh Hoa province in a family with Buddhist tradition. His father is Mr. Nguyen Loi, whose Dharma name is Thanh Ich and his mother is Mrs. Truong Thi Ty, whose Dharma name is Trung Xi.
In his family there are six children: three sons and three daughters. First-born son, having enough good conditions to follow the Buddha, left home to become Buddhist Monk, whose worldly name is Nguyen San, Dharma name is Trung San, Dharma alias is Hai Tue (1922-1991), a contemporarily famed Monk, was in charge of the Institute of Hai Duc Central Vietnam Buddhist Studies in Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa province before and after the year 1975. Third-born son, also having enough good conditions to follow the Buddha, left home to have become Buddhist Monk, whose Dharma alias is Thich Nhu Tinh.

The Period of the Most Venerable Thich Nhu Tinh’s Renunciation, Cultivation and Learning
When going up to eight years of age, little young boy Nguyen Lang that left home for religious life to become a young baby monk was a good disciple of the Most Venerable Chanh Ky, cultivated and learnt the Buddhadharma at Khanh Long Root Temple, Dien Khanh district, Khanh Hoa province under the guidance of the Most Venerable Pho Hien, Patriarch of founding Khanh Long Temple in Dien Khanh district and under that of the Most Venerable Chanh Ky in a nine-year period 1935-1947.




 At seventeen years of age – 1944, young Monk Nguyen Lang finished studying the second grade in the period of French domination, about eleventh form now. At twelve years of age – 1939, he who was ordained as novice Monk transmitted the Dharma precepts by three Preceptors and seven Demonstrators. At twenty years of age – 1947, he who was ordained as a Bhiksu at Khanh Long Root Temple in Dien Khanh district transmitted the Dharma precepts by the Most Venerable Chanh Ky, that is, Venerable Nhu Tinh’s original Master to make the Most Venerable Chief Monk. From the year of twenty years old to that of eighty years old 1947 – 2007, Venerable Monk Thich Nhu Tinh was the abbot of Linh Nghia Temple in Dien Thanh commune, Dien Khanh district, Khanh Hoa province.
The year 1950 – 1953 in a three-year period, Venerable Nhu Tinh cultivated and learnt the Buddhadharma at Ung Quang Temple in Sai Gon City under the guidance of two Most Venerable Monks: Thich Thien Hoa and Thich Thien Hoa. The year 1954 – 1956 in a two-year period, Venerable Nhu Tinh cultivated and learnt the Buddha and His teachings at Khanh Hung Temple in Sai Gon under the guidance of the Most Venerable Phap lang.



The period of the Most Venerable Thich Nhu Tinh’s cultivation, learning, doing Buddhist matters and training talented Monks
The year 1957, Venerable Nhu Tinh, who came back to Linh Nghia Temple, originated two courses of Summer Retreat at the original Temple in 1957 and 1959 under the guidance of the Sangha Church and under demonstration of the Most Venerable Monks: Thich Hung Tu, Thich Chanh Ky and Thich Vinh Tho. The year 1976, Senior Venerable Thich Nhu Tinh chosen as the Board Head of rituals of Dien Khanh Buddhist Church and the year 2002, chosen as the deputy Board Head of rituals of provincial Khanh Hoa Buddhist Church.
From the year 1976 up to now, learning to follow Dharma Patriarchs’ educational vows and actions, taking care of training the Dharma and bringing up disciples, Senior Venerable as well as the other Honoured Ones think that to light up the torch of the Dharma, to proceed to connect the living vein of the Dharma path and contribute to leading Buddhism to the future steadily, there are only education and training of talented Monks being able to requite the Buddhas’ gratefulness. These doings bring very practical meanings for those who have enough good conditions leave home for religious life, learn the Buddha, train the Dharma, make a Monk  and have the ability to inherit the house of the Dharma in the present as well as in the future in this world.

The Most Venerable Thich Nhu Tinh has taught and instructed hundreds of lay disciples and many monastic disciples like Thich Tinh Tri, Thich Trung Sy, Thich Trung Tuyen, Trung Hoa, Tam Tin, Tam Cang, Tam Luc, etc. Among disciples of the Most Venerable Monk, there is someone following and learning bachelor syllabi of Buddhist Studies, there is someone graduated Bachelor of Buddhist Studies at home and there is someone graduated Master of Arts, Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy in Buddhist Studies in India, holy land – the origin of Buddhism, where World-Honoured One was born in the world nearly three years ago.
The Most Venerable Thich Nhu Tinh is a simply great Monk, whose life of cultivation, learning and spreading the Dharma is a good example for his disciples to follow. We really preciously respect a likeable and beloved Master whose whole life is because of his career of bringing up and training talented Monks.
